What is the difference between an inset sink and undermount sink?
-
When choosing a new sink for your laundry or kitchen renovation project, it can be confusing understanding the difference between certain sink designs. Understandably, two of the most confusing are inset sinks and undermount sinks.
The largest difference between an inset and undermount sink lies in how it is installed. A drop-in or inset sink ‘drops in’ to a hole cut out of the countertop, leaving the lip of the sink exposed above the countertop. Easy to install and practical, the drop-in sink is perfect for those working on a tighter budget or want to avoid complicated and costly installation procedures.
On the other hand, an undermount sink is installed underneath the countertop, creating a continuous flow from the material of the countertop to the material of the sink. Stylish and easy to clean, the undermount laundry sink is perfect for those looking for a minimalist kitchen or laundry look. With the seamless design of the under mount sink, it becomes easy to wipe food off the countertop into the sink, making cleanup easy.
The undermount kitchen sink is only compatible with solid surface counters, due to its more complex installation compared to other kitchen sinks. On the other hand, drop-in kitchen sinks are perfect for any kind of counter, and are often simpler to install than the under mount sink.

How do I maintain my sink?
-
A big factor in how you should maintain your new sink is the material it’s made of. For all of our sinks, we recommend using a soft cloth and mild or gentle soaps to regularly clean. Don’t use sponges, abrasive cleaners such as JIF, or steel wool, as this may damage your kitchen sink.
Stainless steel sink, while resistant to denting and abrasive scrubs, can be damaged over time by harsh chemicals. If you’re searching for a deeper clean, we recommend using baking soda and vinegar to gently get rid of target sports.
Our farmhouse kitchen sinks are heavy-duty, and are resistant to rust and acid. However, they can crack and chip over time if heavy or sharp items are dropped in. We recommend you install a grid at the bottom of your fireclay sink if you’re going to handle heavy or sharp objects around your new sink.
Our stone resin sinks are some of the strongest around. In most cases, hot water and mild soap are all that’s needed for regular maintenance. However, you should avoid hard water build-up and abrasive scrubbing, as this can create scratches and damage the appearance of your granite sink.

What sinks don’t scratch or stain?
-
At Arova, we understand the importance of keeping your new kitchen sink stain and scratch free. Our fireclay, granite composite, and stainless steel sinks are made with some of the strongest materials around so you can spend more time cooking and less time worrying about tricky stains, chips, and cracks.
Stainless steel kitchen sinks are perfect if you’re looking to avoid rust build up or chips and cracks in your sink. The non-porous surface also makes it easy to clean, preventing stains and maintaining a hygienic environment.
Granite composite laundry sinks are another excellent option. Cast granite resin is one of the strongest composite materials around, and is chip and crack resistant. These stone sinks offer exceptional durability. The non-porous surface is resistant to stains and scratches, making them ideal for busy kitchens.
If you’re looking for the polished, classic appearance of porcelain while avoiding its delicate and fragile nature, fireclay is an excellent option. Fireclay is a natural clay glazed and baked at a much higher temperature than porcelain, creating a stronger glaze that is more resistant to stains, scratches, or chips than porcelain. It’s a popular choice among those searching for the look of a porcelain sink without the fragility, and for good reason.
